2nd Month of Bliss

Thatcher turns 2 months old today! Like the title says, it has been pure bliss. We have soaked up every moment we have with him.
He had his 2 month ped. appt. yesterday. Here are his stats:
Weight-12.3 lbs or 64%
Height-24 in or 82%
Dr. Tim was very happy with his weight gain and SUPER impressed that he kept rolling over on his own in front of him. I guess they don't typically start that until 3-4 months. Here are some fun facts about the Thatch Man:

He loves bath time, always has
He is getting great at smiling and cooing, even when not provoked
He has a HUGE fascination with lights. No matter where he is placed in a room, he will find the light and fixate on it. Don't quite know what it means, but lights are bright, so we think he's bright ;)
He loves to snuggle with both mommy and daddy and we probably love it even more
He is starting to sleep 4-5 hour stretches at night
He still makes the great infant sounds that we love
Since birth, he has always placed his thumb in between his middle and fore finger, like he "has your nose" Something we think is endearing
He has already accrued some fun nicknames. Nate calls him Thatchee and I call him Bear, or Bear-Bear
And last but not least, his best fact is that he is an amazing baby. For weeks, I kept waiting for "the other shoe to drop" I am happy to report, it is still floating high! He is so chill and happy. I know I sound like a broken record, but we have thouroghly loved being his parents. We feel so blessed he chose us.

(Fun little side note...I am typing this up while Thatch sleeps in his Moby Wrap on me. Kind of feels like I am pregnant again...kind of) I always love to read labor stories, so even though it was eight weeks ago, I still wanted to put it on my blog. It is kind of a big deal, after all. Hopefully, I can remember all the details.
It all started on Nov 16th...I had my weekly OB appt. She took one look at me, realized how pathetic I looked and offered to strip my membranes. I was 38 weeks on that day. Within 30 min of leaving the office, I was having pretty consistent contractions, which, for me, was nothing since I had been contracting on and off for 4 weeks. I took them with a grain of salt. By the time Nate got home from work, they had slowed down a bit. I wanted to try and sleep through them that night since I had never gone to bed with contractions and woke up with them. I figured it would be a good sign if I woke up with contractions-it might be the real deal. I did, in fact, wake up with them through the night, as well as the next morning. I had Nate go to work for at least half a day so he could tie up lose ends if this was really going to happened. I took the morning to clean and "nest", hoping it would intensify the contractions. I was "DONE" being pregnant and was willing to do about anything. I even contemplated breaking my own water with a crochet hook...I was desperate, ok? Don't judge!
Nate called around 11am asking if I wanted him to come home. I was hesitant, but felt this "could" be it. We decided to head to Easton to walk around Buy-Buy Baby and get lunch at Red Robin. I was still contracting, but not enough in my mind to go to the hospital yet. We were literally 1 min away from the freeway junction that either went home or to the hospital. Nate kept asking, "which way, home or hospital?" With about 10 seconds to spare, I yelled out "hospital". I was really hoping I was not making another mistake. My biggest fear was being sent home for the THIRD time.
We were checked into triage at about 3pm. They checked me and I was 3.5 cent. I had been 2.5 the day before at the OB's. My cervix was also apparently very anterior. They asked me to walk for one hour, and if I made any progress, they would admit me. I still was convinced I was going to be sent home, AGAIN. So, we walked back and forth. I am sure there was a group of laughing nurses huddled around the security monitors, watching me jump and lunge down those halls. I was NOT being sent home!
Moment of truth...getting checked again. Wouldn't you know, I had progressed? Now who was laughing, those silly lunges worked.
The nurse said the most beautiful words my ears had heard in a few months...we are admitting you to Labor and Delivery. One of the many surreal moments over the next few days. They walked us down the hall to the room we had walked by over 50 times. I had looked in that empty room almost every time I walked by, praying we would be in one just like it soon. Who would have guessed I got the very same room.
Nate let his parents know by sending a picture of me in my hospital gown, in bed. She called right away. They showed up about 1 hour later. We were all very excited our time had finally come. It was about 6pm at this time.
They got me all hooked up and the Dr wanted to start some pitocin to stregthen my contractions. I was getting plenty, just not strong enough. They also wanted to break my bag of water-without a crochet hook. They asked if I wanted an epidural before they did either. I, of course, said heck yes! I have been contracting for over a month, I was ready to feel some relief.
The epidural man was really nice and did a good job. There was one spot, called a "hot spot", that did not take. He came back a few hours to give me something a little stronger, which helped some.
While I was laying there, dialiting, Nate, his mom and I were playing Phase 10. I don't think we got to finish, but I do think I was winning.
Once I got that super-duper top off from the Epi man, I kind of went out of it. I put on my eye mask and zoned out. I was mostly awake and aware, I just felt paralyzed. Better than feeling the contractions, I guess.
My nurse came in about 3am and checked me. I was 9.5 cent. I had gone from 5-9.5 in two hours! It was a little more than my foggy, sleep-deprived mind could take. I was not ready to push! Who isn't ready to push? Usually that is the most exciting part. For some reason, at that moment, it completely freaked me out! I started shaking uncontrollably. My teeth were chattering so hard, my jaw hurt. Luckily, my nurse realized I needed some time to mentally re-group and gave me an hour to calm down. I look back now and wonder why I was so scared. I was so excited to meet him, I think I was just afraid to fail-ie have an c-section if I could not do it.
My doc came in and started having me do some practice pushes. She informed me this could take up to 2 hours since it was my first. I remember thinking, she is ca-razy! Little did I know how accurate she was going to be. For those of you lucky men and women who have not experienced pushing, let me tell you it is NO JOKE! It is hard! My epidural had run out of medicine about five min into pushing. So, by the time I was done pushing 2 hours later, I was feeling EVERYTHING! During the 2 hours of pushing, Thatcher's heart rate kept dropping. They would have me only push every other contraction at times, to let him recover. The last 30 min got pretty hairy. He was not recovering. I was told by my doc that if I couldn't get him out with the next push, she was going to have to use the vacuum. Normally, I would have freaked out about this, but I was so willing to do whatever it took to get him out safely and quickly that I said, "no problem" It was all I needed though, because wouldn't you know, I got him out on my very next push-no vacuum needed. Here is where is gets even more hairy. I had this beautiful vision of him being born-Nate cutting the cord, him being put on my chest for immediate skin-to-skin and hearing him cry. None of this happened. He came out blue, not breathing or crying. He was immediately rushed to the warmer where 4 peds started working on him. They put a mask on his face and stuck a tube down his throat to his lungs to suck out fluid. What seemed like eternity, was probably only a few min. I was beside myself though...after everything we had been through conceiving him, all the complications I had during the pregnancy, I could not handle another let-down. But then I got a thumbs up from Nate. He was going to be ok. Within a few min, they had him bundled up and brought him over to me. It was the first time I got to see him. He was so beautiful. Still not crying, nor does he really to this day.
Then I got my "vision". Him on my chest, skin-to-skin. He latched on right away and has done great ever since.
He was born On November 18, 2011 at 7:33am. He weighed 7 lbs and 5 oz and was 21.25 inches long, no thanks to his cone head.
Within an hour, we were moved up to post-partum. He got his first bath and Nate got to give him a bottle of formula to bring up his sugar levels (stupid Gestational Diabetes) And then they all left. It was just the three of us! I was in heaven. Enter the 2nd of many more surreal moments. We were parents, he was OURS, we MADE him and he was not going anywhere. BEST.DECISION.EVER.
I only wanted to stay the minimum required, which was 24 hours. It ended up being more like 36 hours, but we were home the very next day. I enjoyed my hospital experience, but there is nothing like home.
It has pretty much been peaches and cream since. I am constantly on cloud 9 and often ask myself how I got so lucky. Then I come down and realize I deserve this. It took 4 years to conceive him and then another 9 months of a torturous pregnancy. I deserved this, period.

We hit up the Zoo Lights again this year, but had a new addition in tow. Really, we had 3 new additions because my mom and sister joined us from the Northwest! We could not have gone on a better night, weather-wise. It was so warm and clear. Of course, the lights never disappoint!

Thatcher was only 2 weeks old on his blessing day, but we wanted to get him blessed while both my mom and sister were here. He did perfect, of course. It is a day I have thought about/looked forward to for many years. It was very surreal to finally experience it. Nate did a great job too! My mom and I made his blessing outfit...really she sewed 95% of it, and mostly by hand because it was so small. We had to take it in multiple times and it was still too big on him. Oh well, he still looked super cute and it will be a great memory. Thanks, mom!

Nate grew up in West Jefferson, which is about 10 minutes west of where we live now. Every year, his little town has a park that is decorated with lights. I have driven by it every year, but never gone in or participated in the events. Since my mom was here, we decided to go and see what it was all about. It really was amazing and Thatcher even got to sit on Santa's lap.

Baby BOY Hayslip

I know I have a million other posts to add, but I really wanted to get this up for those of my friends and family that do not have Facebook. Obviously we are PREGNANT! In fact, we are now already 22 weeks along. We finally found out last week that we are having a BOY! He decided to be shy at our 19 week ultrasound. This time I knew even before the tech said what it was. It was VERY obvious!
After trying for 4 years, Nate and I could not be more ecstatic. We are pretty set on a name, but will probably wait awhile to announce it.

Nerdy 30 Party

I thought turning 30 was going to be hard. In fact, it was one of the best birthdays yet. I had heard of Dirty 30 Parties or 30 and Flirty Parties, but neither really fit me-at all. I was trying to think of other words that rhyme with 30 and came up with nerdy! What a better way to ring in my 30's than to have all my friends dress up as nerds and go bowling! I have to say, I was SO impressed! Everyone came with their A game, costume-wise. It was so much fun and with such a great group of friends. I wish I could have invited more, but there was a limit at the bowling alley per lane. I really want to thank you all for an amazing night, fun times and great, thoughtful gifts. And thanks for helping me start my 30's off the right way!!!

New Year's Eve Party

We hosted our Annual New Year's Eve Party. It was one of the best yet! We invited the Johnson's, the Crowley's and the Anderson's over. I attempted, mostly successfully, the AMAZING Paseo sandwich from Seattle. I had the meat marinating 2 days in advance and cooked it all day. I also made the buns and garlic aoili mayo from scratch. It didn't taste quite the same, but it was still pretty good. I am so bummed I did not get any pics of the food. :(
After dinner, we played this great game called Fortune Seeker. It takes a few hours, but it is such a fun game to play with friends. We ended just after midnight and rang in the New Year in style. Nothing like a pyramid of boys to start off the year right!

Feels weird to be writing about Halloween and Christmas in 1 day, but whatever it takes to get caught up.
We stayed in Ohio again this year for Christmas. We went to the Johnson's on Christmas Eve for dinner and games. Christmas morning, we spent together as a couple opening gifts and eating breakfast. We then headed to his parents for gifts and dinner. As usual, everyone was very generous and it was a great time to be together as family and friends. My main gift from Nate was a Vanity he got on Craig's List and re-fabbed. He sanded and painted the whole thing. I was completely surprised and have LOVED my very own place to get ready every day. No more sitting on the toilet and being hunched over.

Halloween Party 2010

Back in 2010, Lyndzi and I thought it would be fun to host a Halloween party. I think it was my first collaborated party, and let me tell you, it was so nice to have help. And if it was not for Kortney's added help the day of the party, it had a huge disaster potential. It was, of course, a costume party with prizes. Because of Nate's new work schedule, he was not able to go to the pumpkin festival this year. I was not going to let that stop me. I was watching Gabe that day, so I thought it would be fun to have Sunni and Ashton come along. We didn't have a lot of time, but we were able to see almost everything and of course ate the famous pumpkin doughnuts. Even though it was a week-day and in the afternoon, it was still a little too busy for my liking. Here's to next year!

Another year means another Bob Evans Farm Festival Weekend! It was pretty bitter sweet this year. My dad, step-mom and grandma were on their way out to join us this year but had to turn around for a family emergency. We thought about not going, but decided last minute we would regret it if we did not go. Hopefully they can come next year. We had a un-seasonably warm weekend. Compared to this last year, it felt like heaven. As with every year, the May's joined us and I think we had the best time yet.

I am well aware that we took this vacation back in Sept. I have so much to catch up on, so here goes:

Many of you probably know that I am quite the book nerd. Harry Potter books are pretty high up on my list of favorites. When I found out they were building a Harry Potter WORLD, I was quite beside myself. (all nerd comments are welcome) I signed up on their website that would send out updates and how it was coming along. One day I received an email that they were selling package deals to those of us that had been following along. I called Nate, asked his opinion (luckily, he knows me well) and booked it right away. The package included the following: 2 day park hopper passes, 3 nights at a on-site hotel, breakfast at the 3 Broomsticks in HP land, commemorative tickets, plus a few other goodies. We already had our free ticket to Disney World for volunteering, so all we needed was to get there. Luckily, I found some dang cheap flights.

This trip was truly amazing! It was such a great time to bond with Nate, and luckily he knows how to keep up because I can be kind of OCD when it comes to amusement parks! Another cool thing, we found out about a week before leaving that our friends, the Fishers were going to be down there the exact same time. We were able to meet up with them the last day and go to the beach. Totally unplanned, but so much FUN! It was my first time at a FL beach. So warm!

Still playing catch up-

Nate's mom was super nice and bought his 2 sisters and me tickets to Wicked! I have been wanting to see this show for years and could not contain my excitement. We went to lunch at The Olive Garden first. I think this was the first time we had all done something like this together.
The Ohio Theatre was so neat! It is old and has such a classic charm to it. We had great seats and the show was PHENOMENAL!!! I will go every year if possible.

Scavenger Hunt with the Crowley's

Back in August, I thought a Scavenger with the Crowley's was a great way to help them learn how to get around Columbus. I came up with some clues to some key places and then set the boys off while us girls waited at the park with a pic-nic. I told Nate to not help unless he needed to to Chase could learn the area. It ended up taking them WAY longer to get to the park! By the time they got there, it was closing and we were getting kicked out (who knew that could even happened) We snapped a quick shot, loaded up and headed back to their place to eat our pic-nic dinner.

You can't live in our ward without knowing where Golf Point is. (It's an apt. complex where half of our Ward lives for you non-Ohio peeps)

This was the day of the Big Mitchell Family Reunion! It was such a blast to see so many relatives in one place. Some I have not seen in many, many years. There have also been quite a few additions throughout the years; this was the first time Nate met many of them.

My Aunt Cindy asked me to be in charge of coming up with some "Minute to Win It" games for the 10 siblings. Oh what a treat it was to put together and then watch. My Aunt Pat was def. the star of the show. She somehow got the plate of Vaseline stuck to her boob, and then had no idea it even happened. There was not a dry eye in the bunch from laughing so hard.

We ended the night back at the church to have dinner and finish up our 5 Crowns Tournament. We started with about 30 players and it got down to a table of 4, with my cousin Spencer winning the last round.

It was so great to be home for a WHOLE week. We crammed a lot in and saw a lot of people. Seattle will always be my home and I am so proud to have such a pretty place to come "home" to.

Day 6-7

We didn't do much on day 5, so I will skip to day 6. This was the day my sweet sister joined us. We planned a day-o-fun in downtown Seattle. Our first stop was Paseo. I saw them on the food network. They were voted the best sandwich in the US. I still crave it!!! It was THE BEST thing I have eaten in a few years. Wish they shipped.

Next we headed to the Locks. This is where the salt water and fresh water meet. Boats have to be checked in and the water level is raised/lowered, depending on if they are coming or going. Pretty neat to watch. We also saw the salmon run there. Tons of fish jumping!

My mom then asked if I had ever seen the Edmonton "Troll under the Bridge". I had not, so we drove around until we finally found it. It was nothing like I was expecting, but WAY cool.

Our next stop was UW campus to go rent a canoe and get out on the water. Again, something I had never done, but loved every minute of it. The weather could not have been better. Many laughs were had on that little boat!

True to Seattle fashion, we got stuck in BAD traffic on the way home, but made it just in time for the Brown Family Dinner. This was the first time in many, many years all 5 kids were together.

It was so fun to reminisce and laugh out loud at our comical childhood. We also made plans for the next day. It was just for the Brown Kids (and my Mom). We could not decide where to go, so we all compromised and decided to stay home and have a day of outdoor games, just like the "olden" days. After dinner, we headed to Target, Home Depot and Dicks to get some supplies. We were going to play baseball, badminton and washers. It was so much fun. As kids, we played baseball in our front yard with all the neighbor kids many, many times. I just tried to soak up every minute with my kooky family. We had so much fun. We may all have changed over the years, but some things never change. Tawny still looks funny batting, Kirk is teasing in the back round, and my team always wins (JK). Needless to say, it was one of my favorite parts of the trip.

After our Brown Kids Game day, we cleaned up and headed to part 1 of the family reunion. To be Continued...

Seattle Day 4

We got home fairly early Tuesday morning. It took us awhile to decide what to do. It was a day with just Mom. We finally decided to head to Bellevue. We have many ties there, so it seemed the logical choice. We first went and walked around Bell Square, which is a huge mall. My dad used to work in a Jewelery store in the mall, so we as kids spent many hours there visiting dad. We had a little lunch, ran into my ex-boyfrield (so awkward) and did a little shopping. We then headed across the street to the new Lincoln Square. It has a theater, bowling alley, and an arcade. We played a few games. My mom and I even won at Deal or No Deal.

We then headed to the Bellevue Botanical Gardens and walked around. It was nice to pretty much have the whole place to ourselves.

We ended the day back in Snoqualmie at the infamous local bowling alley. My brother made us some Sahara pizza and we ate and played. Todd and Lindsay joined in as well. There's nothing like keeping track of your own score-good thing I learned how to in high school PE :)

Seattle Day 2-3

Months before our trip to Seattle, I asked Nate what he would like to do (being that he had only been there once in the winter and for 1 weekend in Aug) His #1 answer was camp at Mt. Rainier. This was perfect! I was born and raised in Washington, and had NEVER been to Mt. Rainier. You can slap my hand now. We decided to included my best friend, Lindsay and her Todd. I made a camping reservation, hoping I picked a good campground/spot. It turned out to be perfect! We were pretty secluded with beautiful views.
Again, let me back up a little. I tend to get ahead of myself. (You must humor me, this is my only form of "journaling", so I want to get everything down that I can remember)

Saturday was Snoqualmie day. We planned on staying with Lindsay Saturday night so we could wake up early and leave for Mt. Rainier early Sunday morning.
We arrived at their cute house and decided to head to the lake for swimming. The water was pretty cold, but it was nice being in a clean lake for once. We had Taco Time for dinner (YUMMY) and headed to Wal-Mart to stock up on our camping food/supplies.

Sunday morning we drove the 2 hours to Mt. Rainier, set up camp, and then headed out for some hiking. I wish I could describe how magnificent the sites were. Ohio has it's own beauty, but nothing can top the Northwest. We started out hiking at the Grove of the Patriarchs.

We then did a little exploring and hiked down to the river.

After getting all hot from hiking, we decided what better way to end the day then a swim-er, polar bear swim. Being that it is Seattle, the snow is still melting from the mountains in July. We pretty much just swam in freshly melted snow. Now, when I say swam, I really mean jumped in, and flew back out. It was still fun and a GREAT way to cool off.

Back at camp, we prepared our foil dinners and settled down for the night.

The next morning, we packed up and headed out for more hiking. It was a much colder this day, so it's a good thing we got our polar bear swim out of the way. At one point of our drive/park/hike, we came across snow. In fact, there was so much snow, we were told not to hike. We kept looking for the infamous wildflowers, but I guess there was just too much snow still. We stopped at so many places along the way, taking some great pictures. Seattle-July 2010

Long, long ago, in a land far, far away. Ha, ha, just kidding. It is pretty appropriate though. We went to Seattle over 2 months ago and Seattle is about the farthest you can get from OH. We origianally planned our Seattle trip for a family reunion, but we decided to add a few extra days to play and soak up all Seattle/the Northwest has to offer. Since I have over 300 pictures (not to post) and much to re-live, I will try to break this up over a few posts.

Day 1

We arrived late Friday night, so the next morning we woke up with plans to walk down to Snoqualmie. Before I continue, I don't want to forget the sights/smells/sounds of waking up that first morning with the window open. The soft, cool, non-humid breeze, the sounds of the next door horses naying and the smell of wholesome, clean northwest air. I truly forgot how "nature-y" Seattle is.
Okay, back to our walk. I grew up within a 10 min walk of downtown Snoqualmie. I can't even count how many times we would ride our bikes downtown to the local soda shop or town pharmacy for penny candy (I am dating myself, I know). It was so nostalgic to walk downtown with my mom, brother and Nate. We did head straight for the Soda shop to get a homemade ice cream cone.

Now, my town has 2 main tourists attractions-the Snoqualmie Falls and the Train Depot. That weekend just happened to be the weekend Thomas the Train was visiting. Lucky us ;)

We walked around, visited our old stomping grounds and the river where us kids would go swimming every summer. I truly loved where I grew up and look forward to many more trips home to "my" Snoqualmie.

Free Day at Kings Island w/Tricia

Way back in the beginning of July, I had a chance to go to Kings Island for free. All I had to do was volunteer for 2 hours at the park. It was Free Military day, so all we had to do was get people to sign thank you cards that were sent over seas. Nate had to work, so the first person I thought of was my friend, Tricia. She was more than happy to have a day of fun with no kids. We got there right when they opened, checked in, and then rode some rides. We had to ride my all time favorite roller coaster, the Diamond Back. It is 230 feet tall and gets up to 80 mph. Tricia was a bit scared, but she loved it!
We had a lunch break (in the car with air conditioning) and then headed to the water park. I was finally able to ride the infamous toilet bowl ride, which was pretty fun, esp. since I went down backwards.
Even though it was a hot day, I had so much fun with Tricia, and I hope I can do it every year from here on out.

Last night was my 3rd time watching the first midnight showing of the Twilight Series. Our group has def. dwindled since the last movie (missed you Leah, Laura Lee and Adrienne) I could go on FOREVER how amazing the movie was. The flow and consistency following the book was "spot on". Hocking Hills+Great Friends=Fond Memories

We were able to make our annual trip to Hocking Hills this past Memorial Day Weekend. Every year, Memorial Day Weekend rolls around and I can't help but think back to this very same weekend 5 years ago. I was newly divorced and needed to get away. My brother, Branden, invited me up to BYU-I to visit. Little did I know I would meet the man I was destined to marry. Needless to say, we always like to do something special to celebrate. What better way than to camp with some of your closest friends?
This was our 4th year camping in Hocking Hills. We always reserve the same site-it is HUGE! We camped Fri-Sun. This year we invited the Eastman's, the Dean's, the Fullmer's and the Johnson's. 10 adults and 7 kids made for a weekend of fun. We did lots of hiking, LOTS of good eating and had some fun at the local lake/beach. I am already looking forward to next year.

The time is almost here for my WONDERFUL & AMAZING group of friends to say goodbye. Just typing that makes me get all misty. I think I have been in denial for the past few months, but the time has come to face the music. Almost every night, I thank my Heavenly Father for the friends he has sent to me. I sometimes wonder what I did to deserve such amazing women in my life.You have all been wonderful examples, shoulders to cry on, provided couches to laugh on and many nights of competitive gaming. I feel like there are no words out there to describe the feelings of gratitude I have for each and every one of you. Each one of you has touched my life in a way that will never be the same. You have all thrown a pebble into my pond, and the ripples will continue to shape my life for the better. (from misty to waterfall now) Please know that I will never forget all the silly times we have shared together. I hope life will somehow bring us back together some day, if not here on earth, well, you know where.
Alright, Trinette, dry the tears so I can end this with some awesome pictures of our LAST time all together. Here's a little background for those friends and family outside of Ohio. I wanted to throw one last bash to send our friends off who are graduating and moving away. We originally had started our plan with a hotel stay, dinner and shopping. Like all things, we added and had to delete in the process of tweaking this weekend to be just right. In the end, the schedule of events went something like this: Meet at my house at 5pm. Carpool, Mormon-style, to Easton for dinner at Cheesecake Factory. Because we could not make a reservation, the wait was at least 2 hours. No problem, call me Miss Improvise. We headed to Auntie Ann's Pretzels for a quick bite to hold off our appetites. Leah and Mel P showed up and we decided to have our Scavenger Hunt now instead of after dinner. This could not have turned out better. We split the teams up by last name, handed out the clues, went over the rules and we were off! Since I made up the rules, I became the official photographer for my group. For posterity stakes, I will include each clue with the corresponding picture below. Oh, this was so much fun and made for MANY laughs along the way!

Date Night at Vertical Adventures

Last Friday night came around with no plans made. There were no movies we were interested in and we always go out to dinner, so we wanted to mix it up. We decided to try out Vertical Adventures. It is a warehouse turned into a rock climbing venue. They had multiple walls and bouldering. It was pretty busy at first, but once it died down, Nate and I had a blast trying the variety of walls. My favorite (and hardest) was one of the walls that has an angle that makes you start climbing upside down(don't know the term). We will def. be heading back in the future.

Golfin' with Grandpa

We have tried to set up a tee time with Nate's grandpa since last year. Either the weather would get in the way, or we already had plans. We were finally able to get together last Saturday. It was supposed to rain, but it held off long enough for us to get in 9 holes. Before we got there, I asked Nate if he was worried about his grandpa getting hurt. I could not help picturing him going up to hit his ball and then having a heart attack. I was already feeling guilty, and we had not even gotten there yet. Let me just tell you...he sure proved me wrong. This 80+ year old man out shot us all. He has one of those easy swings that somehow packs a ton of power. It was loads of fun! I have my own clubs/shoes, but it had been over 3 years since I had been golfing. It was so much fun, and I did pretty well for how long it has been. Lucky for us, golf is fairly cheap here in Ohio.

Stephanie came up with a great idea for her birthday party last Saturday...a Minute to Win It party. She did her research and found 7 of the 65 games to play. It was SO much fun! If you know me at all, you know I love anything having to do with competition. I thought I would have a little advantage since Nate and I watch the show, but we had only seen 3 of the 7 games she had planned. I guess it didn't matter because I tied for 1st with Beau. I ended up getting 2nd after the tie-breaker though. I would love to do this again later in the summer!

Every year, March comes around, and Nate and I start getting the camping itch. This year, the weather gods allowed a great weekend during Nate's Spring Break to do such a thing. We invited the Eastman's and the Sanders. It was so much fun to break out the good 'ol camper again. We decided to stay close, so we went to Alum Creek. Plus the boys wanted to Mountain Bike. We got up there Friday afternoon, set up and then went for a walk down to the lake. By the time we got back, we were all ready for some grub. There is nothing like cooking over a fire. Saturday started off with French Toast and Sausage. The boys went for their bike ride and the girls (plus Dan with his hurt knee) relaxed, read, and then went for a nature walk. The weather could not have been better! Camping trip numero' uno of the season :)

The month of Feb was all about breaking records. Not only did the US just get the most medals ever won in Winter Olympics, but Central Ohio broke the previous snow fall record for Feb with a total of 30.1". The last time was in 1912! Nate & I have loved it though. Nothing like sitting down to watch the Winter Olympics while it is snowing outside. And watch, we did! We could not get enough of the Olympics this year. We Tivo'd it nearly everyday. Who knew that I could grow a fascination for Snowboard Cross, Ice Dancing, and Curling! I can't wait for the next one in 4 years! Anyhoo, back to the snow! We sure added some arm/back muscles with all the shoveling we did last month. I was able to get out and take a few fun shots of the snow.

Valentine's Day Dinner

Nate and I like to take turns every year planning Valentine's Day. This was Nate's year, and since V-Day was on Sunday, he made plans for Friday night. I, for once, had no idea where we were going. The only hint I had was to dress up "real snazzy-like". Turns out, he took me to the Columbus Fish Market. It is one of the nicer restaurants in Columbus. The reason I did not even consider this place is because Nate HATES fish. But, in honor of a new year, he wanted to give it another shot. He ordered grilled Tilapia and I ordered crab cakes. Being not a huge fan of fish myself, I was thoroughly impressed with Nate's dish. He REALLY liked it too. We even bought some Tilapia from the Seafood counter at the grocery store and had it for dinner again this weekend.
I do have some pictures from the night, just not the best quality. We COULD NOT find our camera, so we had to settle for my camera phone. Being that it does not have a timer, the following pictures ensued...

Well, I did it, I am in the last year of my 20's! Surprisingly, this year was easier than last. Don't hold your breath for next year though. Nate was so sweet to throw me a "bright" birthday party. He sent out invites asking everyone to wear yellow to help brighten my 29th year. And wear yellow, they did. Because it was SO hectic, I was only able take these 2 pictures. I stood in the middle of the living room and kitchen and got a shoot looking each way. I think we counted about 35 people at one point! Thanks again, everyone, for making me feel so special and for "brightening my day"

Sledding at Battle-Darby Park

Back in Jan, after our first big snowfall, we decided to go sledding/tubing. We made a whole day of it by inviting the Mays and the Eastmans. We all met at the park and had a blast trying all different combos of getting down the hill. It was hilarious to see the looks the guys got when all 3 of them got on top of each other and went down. Soon, other older guys were doing the same, probably trying to show each other up...MEN!
After sledding, we had them over for Chili, corn bread and Trifle! Played a little Guitar Hero and called it a night. I think we all slept real well that night.

Cutting down our Christmas Tree Part Deux

So, you may remember this from last year. We went to Cackler Tree Farm again this year. Nate's parents came too, which was fun. It was a very similar situation from last year. Very cold, and pretty quick. It did also start spitting snow flurries when we got there, which made it more authentic. We both found our trees pretty quick. Nate cut them both down. Again, got a quick picture, paid for our tree, got some hot chocolate, and headed home. I look forward to this tradition every year! There is nothing like being out in nature, with the snow falling down, pine scent in the air and making memories with my sweet family.
We actually are hoping to get a permit next year and head out into the woods to find the "perfect" tree. Until next year.

This year, we decided to have another "friendsgiving" We had the Gross's and the Hunter's over. We did this 2 years ago, and just had to do it again. Even though we have Nate's family here, most of our friends do not, nor do they go home for Thanksgiving since they are leaving for Christmas. So, we all get together as "family" We ate great food, as always. We also played Cranium and then, while the boys played X-Box, the girls looked the the Black Friday ads. It was a great day and it was a great way to remind Nate and I of how grateful we are for all the friends we have made out here. It was also bitter sweet as this will be the last time the Gross's are here for the Holiday season. >>>Tear<<<

My dad and Renee' came to visit the Land of the Buckeyes a few weeks ago. This was their first time in Ohio. It was such a great weekend, weather-wise. High 50's and low 60's the whole time! They came in Wed and stayed until Sun. We didn't have much planned before they came, but somehow found plenty to do. We went to the North Market in the Short North District. It was right up their alley! We all bought some good food, ate some yummy Jeni's Salty Caramel ice cream, and enjoyed the eccentric atmosphere. We then went to German Village. Here is my dad and me in front of an old church.

We also went into the 32 room Book Loft. It reminded me of a labyrinth of books. Crazy! We all found some good books though.

Bob Evans Farm Festival

This was our 3rd year attending the Bob Evans Farm Festival. My mom decided to come this year. We went down Thursday and stayed until Sat night. Unfortunately, it was not the best year, weather-wise to go. It rained almost the entire weekend! We still managed to have quite a bit of fun.
Every year, our group of campers "The Redneck RV Club" gets bigger and bigger. We are all family and friends! It is such a great group. We eat great and have loads of fun with each other. The year we even had Tur-por-kin for dinner one night. What is Tur-por-kin, you ask? It is a pork loin, stuffed in a chicken, stuffed in a turkey. Yum!
Our group also competes in the Bob Evans Contests. Nate and I have competed every year, but never won. This year, we actually won 3 contests between to the 2 of us. I won the corn shelling contest, Nate won the egg toss contest with a friend, and Nate and I won the team cow chip tossing contest. And yes, he was actually throwing dried cow poop and I had to catch it in a bucket and throw it back. It was fun though. Hopefully next year, it will be better weather.

Busy Weekend Re-Cap

This weekend was crazy busy. Here is a quick-ish recap. We went to the Circleville Pumpkin Festival Thursday night with the Hunters. Ate the following :pumpkin ice cream, pumpkin doughnuts, roasted corn, fresh rootbeer and cream soda and pulled pork sandwich. Good food. Saw some HUGE pumpkins and watched a few highschool marching bands.

Friday was a Costume Party. Nate and I dressed up as the Publisher Clearing House Couple. It was pretty fun and easy, as far as homemade costumes go.

We had to leave the party early because I had won 8th row tickets on the radio to the Zac Brown Band concert. We were so excited...we really like their music. Now, we LOVE their music. It was such a good concert. They put on a great, harmonized show. And get this, we even got to meet the whole band after wards and get all their autographs. Way cool, down-to-earth guys!

Saturday was going to be a stay-at-home, watch-the-game, clean-out -the-garage day. The May's invited us last minute to come to the game for free instead, and we really couldn't turn down a Buckeye game. Even though it was pretty cold and windy, it was a great game and we really had fun being there.

Even after all the activity, we still managed to come home and clean out the garage for the next 4 hours! We got rid of so much stuff and now we have room for both the pop-up camper AND my Jeep! So excited about that.

Sunday was just as busy as the previous few days. Church, Choir Practice, Home Teachers, Visiting Teachers, Dinner and games with the Hunters and then a visit to his dad who is in a re-hab center for double-knee surgery. No Sunday Nap for us this week!

I love this time of year. There is always so much going on. If you made it through all that, congrats!

Hocking Hills for Labor Day Weekend

Nate and I have gone camping in Hocking Hills every year since we have moved out here. This year was our third year at the very same camp site. It always feels so good to get down to hills and nature. Feels like a slice of the Northwest-my kind of place. Below are just a few pics from the weekend. We usually go on Memorial Day, but had to change to Labor Day this year. I do not recommend going down there this time of year. All the waterfalls, rivers and creeks were almost completely dried up. We will def. be going Memorial Day next year and every year there after.

Our First Real Garden

We attempted a small garden last year and learned there is such a thing as planting too much in a small place. We learned our lesson this year and expanded it about 3 times the size. We also added a better fence so the dogs could not get in and ruin it like last year. We planted the following
Beans, Onions, Zucks, Corn, Romaine Lettuce, Strawberries and 3 types of pumpkins. So, far we have harvested about 10 zucks, 2 bags FULL of beans, and 6 heads of romaine lettuce. Our corn is almost ready and the pumpkins are well on their way to Halloween time. It has been alot more work that we thought, but also very rewarding. We have learned new lessons this year that will hopefully make our garden next year even better.

Cedar Point & Camping

My best friend from Seattle was able to come out and visit me about 2 weeks ago. Her husband is from Northern Ohio and they were here for his father's funeral. They suggested we go to Cedar Point while they were here. We, of course, were happy to oblige. I made a reservation at a campground on Lake Erie for the night before. We swam in Lake Erie, had foil dinners for dinner and played "BANG". We woke up early the next morning and headed to CEDAR POINT! We were so lucky for another unseasonably cool day and had loads of fun riding those crazy roller coasters. The Raptor was my fav!

Harry Potter was A-MA-ZING. Nate and I spontaneously decided to go see the 12:01am showing of Harry Potter last night. I have seen most of the Harry Potter movies at midnight and was not planning on keeping up the tradition this time around due to Nate having to work at 5am every morning. But he surprised me last night and out of the blue said "How about we go see Harry Potter?" I was more than happy to oblige. We arrived at 10pm and had to wait outside in a line (expected). We came prepared though with a blanket and Phase 10 to play. It made me very reminiscent of the days of being more spontaneous. Like the time we decided at 10pm on Friday to go camp out in downtown Salt Lake to save a spot for the Parade the next day (I do not recommend this, though)
Anyways, I will not give away any spoilers, but it was a pretty good adaptation of the book. They, of course, left out some pretty key things, but overall, I was very impressed with how the movie was made. I will def. see it again.

New Moon Trailer

You can tell their acting has improved so much since filming Twilight. You can ALSO tell they have ALOT more money for filming New Moon. Special effects looked good. Hope you enjoy as much as me...

Memorial Day Weekend!

This may be a week late, but oh well. We had our first annual Hayslip Family Camping trip. It was a lot of fun and Hueston Woods State Park was beautiful. There was so much to do. We went on many hikes, swam at the beach, made great food over the fire and played some fun games. We were lucky to have such great weather! The dogs were so tired when we got home-they slept for 2 days straight. I always look forward to the great camp kick-off that Memorial Day offers. We have about 3-4 more planned camping trips and I look forward to every one!

So, I don't normally promote a television show, but after watching Glee last night, I could not stop thinking about it! It was comical, musical and captivating. The singing is AMAZING! Love Rachel! And it is based in Lima, OH! Here is a little snippet of what I am talking about. I really hope Fox will bring this in the fall like promised! You can watch the whole episode on fox.com.

Race for the Cure

Last Saturday was the Race for the Cure in Columbus. Apparently, it is the 5th or 6th largest in the nation! Nate's mom is a 2 year survivor, and my Aunt Joy has been a survivor for many years now. I walked in their behalf. His mom and sister walked with me too. It was very overwhelming how many people were there! I got choked up about 4 times. Very inspiring! This was just a fraction of the people that were there supporting Breast Cancer!This is Nate's mom walking through the Survivor's Tunnel. Very cool. The African-American lady in the back was dancing the whole way through-very funny!

Cleaning out the Fridge

You probably just read that title and wondered why I would post about such a silly thing. Here is the reason:
I am fortunate enough to have a husband who takes his night off to help me clean out the fridge. The above invention was solely his. He found that his shirt would not stay up, so a piece of string did the trick. Now, I am sure you are still asking yourself why this is so funny...again, let me explain. In the process of the "Great Fridge Clean-Out of 2009", 2 things were said by Nate that left me rolling on the floor laughing, tears a-streaming. The first was this, "I can still smell it!" Followed shortly by, "If I throw up, it is going down my bare chest!" This is still so funny to me-I am cracking up again while writing this. Maybe it is one of those "had to be there moments", but I will forever cherish this much-needed "silly" time with my honey!
And yes, we had quite a few "left-overs" that got to be included in our "what were you originally" game. I should be ashamed of how long is has been since we have cleaned out the fridge (6 months maybe), but I am not because it was our entertainment for the night. I guess I am easily entertained.

Entertainment Stand

I am finally getting around to posting pictures of Nate's first woodworking project. He had a TON of help from Beau, his mentor, but I am still proud of all the work he put into it. I LOVE IT! Here is where we found the inspiration. Can you believe people actually pay that much for this? We probably spent less than $500, including paint and hardware!
I am so glad Beau talked me into painting it red, it really makes the room pop! They started it last fall and finished it by Halloween. They just barely added the trim to the top though. I wanted to wait to post the pics until that was done. We distressed it and used Nate's sweet Restoration Hardware discount to get the knobs and handles. Now I can count on Nate to build other things around the house, like a crib someday!I found the idea for the drawers on Pottery Barn also. Showed Beau the pic and he just figured out how to make them! We already need more room for the DVD's though ;)Side view showing more of the crown molding they added to the top. Added just the right touch.

Easter Sunday

We are very fortunate to live close to Nate's family. We always have a home to go to on Holidays...and great food! We invited the Hunter's again since they have become extended family to the Hayslips. Nate's mom asked that I only bring cole slaw, which I have never made, nor ever been a fan of. Well, of course I could not just buy packaged cabbage and a jar of dressing, I had to make it from scratch. I found a recipe online and added a few extra ingrediants. And let me tell you, cabbage is not that easy to cut up...it is much tougher than regualr lettuce. It turned out so well, I think I will add this recipe to one of my favorite sides to make!
After Dinner, we all went outside to watch the kiddies find the egss Nate...er the Easter Bunny hid. They then started a football game, which was so fun to watch! Brooke and Trent actually did really well and caught the ball most of the time to make the touch-down. It was a real game with a real score and real tackling. Brooke even ended up with some scratches from being face-planted by Trent! I think Brooke and Nate ended up winning, but it was a close game. Good job Trent and Beau, you made a good team.
Glad it was such a gorgeous day!

Spring Break Weekend

Even though Nate had a week off from school, we both still work, so a week off is out of the question. Our Anniversary was the 25th, so for part of my gift, Nate took Friday off (paid) for us to do whatever. Come Thursday night, we still had not decided what that "whatever" was. I thought maybe we should just sleep on it, wake up and do some research online to see what is close around us. When we woke up Friday morning, I headed straight for the computer and started searching away. I knew the weather was not too promising here in Columbus, so I started looking a little south. I found that Charleston, WV had the best outlook, weather-wise. I then started searching for campgrounds near there. We originally thought it would be fun to just go tent camping since the low was only supposed to get in the 50's. The North Bend State Park had tent sites, but also had 8 cabins for rent. During the summer, you must rent these for a week at a time. We both thought this would be cool, but thought the following would be against us:
-we only wanted 1 night
-with only 8 total, all must already be booked
-usually cabins are pretty pricey...$200-$300 a night
But, luck would have it that they had 1 two-bedroom cabin left, and it was only $98 a night! Because it was 2 bedrooms, we thought we should invite another couple. We thought who better/funner(I know, not a word) than the Jumps! We called and they were IN. This is when I am grateful we do not have kids yet. We just packed and loaded the truck and were on our way. It was a matter of a few hours from the time we decided on what we were doing and on the road to that "doing".
The little town of Cairo was so neat. Very old and run-down, but had a great feel. It only took 2.5 hours to get there. Our cabin was so neat-o! Think log cabin with a free-standing fire place.
We got settled in and went to dinner at the restaurant at the Lodge. Do not recommend it! Expensive for semi-crappy food.
We came back and played a mad game of Hand and Foot. Watched half of Transporter 3 then went to bed.
Woke up to Nate making breakfast...yum. Played a little more cards and then headed out for our 6 mile hike. Again, not the best hiking, but they had about 10 trails that could have been better. The dogs did great and always love a good hike.
We were all tired and ready to go home. It may have been short, but we had so much fun and look forward to going back down there again.

Work-Out Wanda...err Trinette

I have set a goal and REALLY hope I can stick to it! I want to get better about working out. I think part of the reason is how inspiring the show "Biggest Loser" has been this season.
So far this week, I have gone to 2 aerobics classes and gone on 4 lengthy walks with the dogs. Plus I have played baseball and frisbee. I feel so good! I don't know if it is a fluke, but I have lost 3 of those infamous LB's in about 1.5 weeks! Nate and I are also trying to eat out less and eat better, smaller portions. Here's to looking good in a swimsuit for the summer.

Cricut Love <3

I came across an article online that was talking about being able to cut out fabric with the Cricut. I couldn't believe it! I also just recently found out you can cut out clear stamps too! This has been quite the investment, craft-wise. So, I decided to try out the fabric myth. It took awhile to get the right settings. I also had to have just the write type of fabric and wonder under. It worked amazing once I got it all figured out though. Here are the 3 onesies I made yesterday. I had so much fun, I cannot wait to make more. I think I will add these to my Etsy shop. Woo Hoo.
(The plane is for a friend's baby, Malachi, and the T is for Tatum Hunter. I have not decided what to do with the truck, maybe just sell it.)

I received a call from Katie Monday morning asking if I had any plans on Tuesday night. I did not. She let me know the reason why...Caroline had found out it was my birthday and was upset that she was not invited to my party. According to Katie, she was so distraught, she would not get out of the car and go into daycare (such devotion). Katie asked if I would join her and Caroline for dinner on Tuesday night to celebrate my birthday. How could I refuse. We went to Z Cucina on Grandview Ave. Very quaint, and great food too.
Well, I guess this post is mostly a thank-you for a lovely dinner and wonderful birthday gift(you know I will be sporting my Bunco shirt next week). I was even serenaded by Caroline with a song she made up just for me. You rock, Care Bear!
BTW, Katie, because it was so dark in the restaurant, I did not see that my bracelet is by Rachel Leigh...I love her. Thanks mucho!

Weekend Update

Even though I did not take any pictures this weekend to document what went on, I felt I should at least share what we did since it was packed, non-stop.
Friday night was dinner and games with the Rencher's and Dean's at the Gross'. Dinner was great and the games were hilarious. Loved the Animal Game.
Saturday started early for both of us (esp. since we were out so late Fri night). Nate had to work at 5am and I had to meet at the church at 7:15am for a Beehive Kidnapping and breakfast. It was fun. Welcome to the Beehives, Anna.
We went straight from the breakfast to our first Girl's Camp meeting. Prior to the meeting, Karlie, Mel and I all wanted to go to the High Adventure (white-water rafting, caving, cliff jumping, etc). Throughout the meeting, it was made apparent that they only needed a total of 3 leaders and 2 of the spots were already taken. So, Karlie and I were convinced that Mel would go and we would go to regular Girl's Camp, which is just as great in my eyes. Then we started getting worried that we would not be paired up together and would get stuck with a older, unfamiliar lady. Lucky for us, we were paired up. This year's theme is "Under Construction" and our unit is the "Sheet Rocks" We are pretty stoked! I already have a few ideas muling around in my head (one of them having to do with Bob the Builder) Anyhoo, I feel so blessed to have my calling with the Young Women's, it is something I truly enjoy.
Headed home after the meeting to get the house ready for the Elders Quorum Mingle. We were one of three houses asked to host. It started at 6 with 10 couples at each house. We had appetizers, played games, and what else do you think...mingled. At 7pm, everyone switched to a different house for Root Beer floats, more games, and you guessed it, mingling. It was really a fun night and a great way to get to know all those who have Sunday callings. I hope we make it a bi-annual or quad-annual (is that 4 times a year?) event.
You would think after such a busy day, we would call it a night, right. Not us. Beau and Shannon called and wanted to hang out. Well, Beau's exact words were "I need a little testosterone" So, B came over to our house to "play" with Nate in the basement, and I went over to their apt to hang with Shanny and Tatum. We watched "Friends" and talked. It was nice.
Sunday, we went to Nate's home branch in London for Malchi's blessing. We stayed for all 3 blocks and then headed over to their house for a Linner (lunch/dinner if you must ask) Round 1 of 3 for our Sunday dinner. From there, we headed over to Nate's grandpa's for our 2nd round of dinner and the first half of the Super Bowl. His parents, sisters and the kids were there.
From there (are you getting the pattern yet?), we headed to our next door neighbors for more food and the last half of the Super Bowl. Really wish the Cards could have pulled it out.
Well, if you have made it thus far, congrats. (sometimes, I think I blog more for my own journaling purposes, but, oh well.)

Definition of Beautiful Landscape

I was looking through and organizing our pictures today and I came across some that I took this fall at the Bob Evans Farm Festival. It is in Southern Ohio and we have attended every year since living here. We look forward to it all year long. It is the funnest camping weekend.
I have always loved photography. I have had a camera since I was in 4th grade. I may be dating myself, but my first camera had the flash strip that you had to snap on top of the camera. It had like 4-5 flashes and then you threw it out(the flash strip) and put a new one on. Thank goodness cameras have evolved. Anyhoo, when I was looking through these pictures, I forgot how truly beautiful it is there. Looking forward to this October ;)

Happy Monday. I just thought this picture was so fitting of Oakley's personality...always having to be in the action, ie, where ever I am. I don't even notice it anymore. (do you see how I just make room without even knowing I am doing it) When Nate showed me this picture minutes after taking it, I could not remember Oakley ever even being in the kitchen. He is so stealthy. I just thought it was cute. (Sorry it is so dark, apparently Nate thought if he kept the flash off, HE could be more stealthy. It must have worked thought because I did not even know he took the picture.)

TATUM

I just wanted to announce the arrival of Tatum Elizabeth Hunter. She arrived January 25th at 4:50am. (won't ever forget that day as it is the day after my birthday). She was 7 pounds 1 ounce and 20 inches. She came 2.5 weeks early too. She is absolutely perfect with no typical newborn markings! It was a joy to hold and see her yesterday. Congrats to the Hunters, I could not be more happy and elated for you guys.

So, I took this picture at 9am last Friday morning when I got to work. The sun was even shinning! I could not believe how cold it was! We sure have been having a crappy winter. At least it snowed this weekend, making it pretty. What is really sad is that it actually felt "warm" on Saturday and the temp was only 22 degrees. Please, can winter go away and only come back once a month until March? That is not asking too much, is it?
Anyone do anything fun over the weekend?

Marley & Me

Nate and I decided to go see a movie for FHE last night. We were trying to decide between Marley & Me, Bedtime Stories, or Benjamin Button. We ended up choosing M&M because we wanted to see Ben Button with Beau & Shannon. The whole movie was pretty true to the book. Very funny for the first 80%. Since it has been about 2 years since I have read it, I forgot how EXTREMELY sad the end is. I had not forgotten what happens, just the extreme of it. This is the ONLY movie I have ever LEFT crying. I can usually compose myself before I have to head out into the lit hallways of the theater. I was still BAWLING when we got to the car. Even Nate cried, which has only ever happened in Ladder 49, and that was like one tear. I could not stop comparing our lives to that of the Grogans. Most of you know we have 2 dogs that we got as puppies. We have raised these dogs like children. I could not get over the fact that it will be us in 10+ years going through the same heart-ache. I had finally mostly composed myself until I walked in the door and was greeted by my two pups. I lost it all over again. I was a MESS.

Anyhoo, the moral of the story is go see the movie, but expect to cry, ESPECIALLY if you have a dog.

Dog Park and 60 degree weather

Saturday was, get this, 60 degrees! How could we not take advantage and go outside? All we had to wear were sweatshirts! The dogs have been so cooped up lately because the back yard has been a huge mud pit with all the rain. We have just been taking them out front to do there business, hence them losing their daily run around time in the back yard. It has been driving us all crazy! So, today was the perfect day to let them just run. There is a park off Amity that lets dogs be unleashed, run and play. It also has a part of the lake that only dogs can use! It is great.
Here are a few pics of the puppies (and one of Nate and I) What is your favorite thing to do on days like these that we get few and far between here in Ohio?

Cookie Sheet Calendars

I made these 2 calendars, with a ton of Nate's help, for his parent's and sister for Christmas. Of course, I waited until the last minute, but it was fun to make another project with my trusty side-kick, Nate!
It is a calendar made on a cookie sheet. I laminated all the pieces and they are attached by magnets, hence the need for the cookie sheet. You can use it forever because you just move the numbers around according to the month it is. All the extra months and such are stuck on the back of the cookie sheet (forgot to take a picture of this). I even cut out holiday pictures to replace the date. For instance, I cut out a tree, a turkey, a pumpkin, and a few presents for birthdays. They turned out super cute. This would be a great super Saturday idea.
(the reason his mom's is missing numbers is because I ran out of magnets, oops) Do you have any ideas to share for future gifts to make?

Christmas Eve

I want to start off by saying I hope all had a wonderful Christmas! I know I did. I was spoiled to no end. I got almost everything I asked for, plus more. I am grateful for such a wonderful husband who knows what I want without me even telling him :)
Let me rewind to Christmas Eve though. It was our first Christmas Eve alone. We decided to stay home and start our own Christmas Eve traditions. We both worked for half a day and then I stopped at Wal-Mart on the way home to get the supplies needed to make his parent's and sister's gift. I will post pictures of them next. They took WAY longer than I was planning on, and before you know it, it was time to start the Christmas Eve festivities. Nate had me open what turned out to be one of my favorite gifts...footie pajamas! Do you see the feet are monkey's? So cute and warm! Thanks, honey! I had Nate open up the slippers I got for him. It was a great night and a great way to start our own traditions.

Blog Baking

I was blog surfing yesterday during my lunch break and came upon two seperate recipes that I wanted to try out. One was for Thin Mints from Kim Lovejoy.

And then I found a Tikki Marsala recipe on Britt Peterson's blog. Let's just say I was feeling Betty Crocker'ish last night. I tried both and was very impressed by how both turned out. The Tikki was a great, semi-easy dinner. I paired it with Cheesy Rice-a-Roni. It was a good combo. I am thinking it needs one more spice, but I cannot put my finger on it.Then, Nate and I made the Thin Mints for FHE. Super easy and super addicting! Thanks, ladies for the ideas!

Ugly Sweater Bunco

December was my month to host Bunco. I decided it would be fun to have the 1st Annual Ugly Sweater Contest. I found my beauty at the Thrift Store a few min from my house. There were so many to choose from-ugly sweater over-load! I actually looked at the same one Melani is wearing! Anyhoo, I made a prize for the winner, everyone voted and chose me as the winner. Thanks guys, I thought my sweater was pretty cute ;) I ended up having a drawing for the prize since I got a Gift Card for having the most wins in Bunco. It was a fun night. Thanks to all the girls who wore their "lovely" sweaters. I hope we can make this a yearly tradition. On a side note, I had no idea that sweater made me look like such a heafer! Maybe that is why I won.

Duran Duran

So, my really good friend Katie invited me a few months ago to the Duran Duran concert. It was Monday night and loads of fun. We got there early, bought our T-Shirts and got to our seats. Confession time:concert was to start at 7:30. 7:30 on the dot and the band comes out. Katie and I are shocked that the seats are nearly empty and everyone is just sitting down. We could not stop commenting on how tame the crowd was for Duran Duran. Oh, wait, this was just the opening act, which, might I tell you looked a lot like Duran Duran. We felt like such idiots!
Well, by the time Duran Duran actually took the stage, the house was packed and everyone was on their feet the entire time. It was so fun. Thank you, Katie for the invite!

Zoo Lights

Nate and I went to the Zoo lights with Megan & Greg and Beau & Shannon last Saturday. I went 2 years ago, but let me tell you, this year was MUCH better. They have switched over to LED lights, which I typically don't like on houses, but LOVED at the zoo. It was very bright and festive. Beau and Shannon got there before us, so they went and ice skated while they waited for us. We got there in time to see Beau attempt a 180. Good try, buddy. We then headed up in through the zoo. We went through the reptile house and to see the Manatee's. And of course we took some pictures.
Brrr, it was cold! Here is one of the boys and girls on the Wart Hogs, of all things.

Cutting Down our Tree

Every year we have made it a tradition to go to a tree farm and cut down our Christmas tree. This year we went to the Cackler Tree Farm in Delaware County. Even though it was very cold and snowing, it seemed fitting. I have cut down many trees for Christmas, but never when it is snowing. It was almost magical. We brought the dogs this year, which was fun to have the whole "family" there. Here is the funny part...because it was snowing and people don't know how to drive, it took us over an hour to get there. It should have taken about 40 min. Because it was so cold and windy we made our plan before we even got out of the truck. I told Nate I wanted a Blue Spruce. So, we got out, got a map of where the blue spruces were, got our sled and saw and headed out. We found the "perfect" tree in a matter of 5 min. 2 more minutes for a picture of me and the dogs, another 2 min for Nate to cut it down, and waa laa, we were done.
So, 1.25 hours of driving for a 10 min event. It was a great afternoon though and we always love driving up in the country. If anyone is interested, we will be going there again next year. Anyone who would like to join is more then welcome.

Black Friday!

So, call me crazy, but I was one of the many shopping patrons that was up at 4am hitting the black Friday sales. But, I was not the only one! Us Mormons will do anything for a good sale. Here is a list of who I saw in the mere 3 hours I was out shopping:

Anyhoo, the point is, we must all be crazy. I did get some STELLAR deals though. I am 90% done with Nate's gifts. Feels great that I was able to find so many of his "Christmas List" items on sale... (yes, he really did make a list that consisted of 28 items, one of them being a four wheeler!) Sorry, honey, four wheelers are not in the budget.

Warning-this is long: So, Katie and I just got back from our whirlwind of a girl's weekend last night. We went to Utah to visit Jordan and to see "Twilight" at 12:20am at the Gateway theater in Salt Lake City. For anyone who wants to know, I thought the movie was FANTASTIC. The beginning is a bit hooky/slow, but oh, does it get better. I about died during the fight scene with James. It was so intense and I now can't wait to see the next one. They just announced this weekend that they will be filming New Moon beginning of 2009! (this is us at the movie, I don't know if you can see, but Katie has a very telling sign directly above her (it is a handicapped sign) So, back to Utah. We flew in Thursday night. Jordan picked us up and we went straight to CAFE RIO! It was just as good as I remembered it. (I went again Sat night) We dropped Caroline and Addy off at the in-laws and headed for the Marriott to get ready for the movie. Our room was on the 15th floor and we faced the Temple, which was gorgeous, as always. We also had a newly renovated room with a balcony and a sliding glass door nearly impossible to open. All 3 of us tried to open the thing and finally had to call the front desk to send someone up. This guy came in, and opened it with one arm. We are such wusses. It was hilarious at the time though. We then headed to the movie and did not get back to the hotel until about 3am. You would think after being up for almost 24 hours, we would have gone straight to bed, but no, we stayed up for another hour raving/gushing about the movie. You would have thought we were high on the heroine Edward talked about in the movie. It was a fun night, girls! The next day, we decided that we would head up to Park City for some good 'ol fashioned shopping. The weather was perfect! We hit Main Street, and while walking, ran into a lady walking a dog wearing the cutest jeans I had seen in a long time. We asked where she got them and she told us in a store in Redstone, down by the freeway. After we were done, we left Main St and headed for CJ Sports, the jean store. Took us a while to find it, but it was well worth it. Jordan bought one pair, and I got two. I couldn't pass them up, not at 20% off at least. Come to find out, these "special" jeans are sold at Buckle, of all places. But, we still paid less than if we got them at there. After Park City, we went to Chuck a Rama for dinner. I love their scones and honey butter! The rest of the night was spent relaxing in the hotel room and in the hot tub. Saturday I fianlly got to go see me bestest friend, Cindy Lue. I have not seen her for over 2 years and since that time, she has had 2 babies! David was just born last week. It was fun holding him and catching up with my Lue! That night was spent just like the night before. It was a great trip and many fond memories were made. Although, Katie, you never did take your bra down to the front desk. We will have to think of some other way for you to pay your debt ;)

So, I have finally jumped on the Blog band wagon. My friend Katie has been bugging me and I finally conceded. I thought since I have so much to talk about from my fun weekend, I would finally get started. So, here is to my first blog...cheers!
